effects on artists, writers, and poets of that age.
Cross-Cultural Interaction
2CH
Cross Cultural
Interaction involves History, Geography, Economics, and
Government in the Social Studies group. It demands a
knowledge and expansion of the course themes into Language
Arts, Science, and the Arts. It will involve
cross-disciplinary interaction to achieve a genuine
understanding of how integrated curriculum can be used to
meet state standards. It will involve looking at the world
via commodities, particularly slaves and the slave trade.
This course will provide an introduction to the causal
effects of slavery on Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and
the Americas.
Ideas and Concepts
2 CH
This course focuses on
the cross-disciplinary and cultural understanding of
commonly used words in our society. Students will be asked
to examine the language connection behind words such as
Democracy and Liberty. From language students will be asked
to draw connections to culture, society, religion and
government.
The Learning Bridge
2 CH
In this course
students will be required to construct a learning bridge
that will connect to subject areas. They will be given a
topic or theme in which they will create mini-units that
will integrate activities. Their goal will be to reconfigure
the standards into meaningful parts rather than into
disciplines. They will also have to develop assessment ideas
that will be appropriate for these activities and meet the
requirements of the standards and benchmarks.
Understanding Connections
2 CH
The goal of this
course is to get students to understand the connection
between the different sub-disciplines and their relationship
to the real world. They will focus on creating unit plans
that focus on an area of local concern. This course will
require students to leave their comfort zones and examine
cross-disciplinary interaction in meeting the standards. In
this case, students are going to focus on ways to carefully
connect activities to state standards and benchmarks.
Teachers will personalize learning for their students while
they play the role of facilitators or specialist/generalist.
This course will include components where students must
share their knowledge, communicate validation, and present a
final evaluation plan and present it to an external body for
evaluation. Assessment rubrics will play a major role in
this course.
